PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT
Oct 04 to date Speaker Network Manager with Traidcraft
My role involves managing a network of 540 volunteer speakers across Britain and Northern Ireland. I develop the strategy for the network, recruit suitable speakers, train them, provide resources for them and co-ordinate the day to day running of the network. I lead public speaking training days designed to envision speakers, build their confidence and equip them to be effective in speaking to a range of audiences. I have also written a 90-page resource pack covering all areas of Traidcraft‘s work and giving speakers plenty of material for their talks. I also developed a log-in area of the website enabling speakers to keep up to date with the latest news, keep in touch with each other, and download new resources. Last year I ran four one-day conferences which I called ‘Inspire days’. These were days of seminars and workshops designed to encourage and envision speakers as well as update them on Traidcraft. The feedback from all the training I have run has been extremely positive, which makes it very rewarding.
I also write general resources for Traidcraft (including 5 church worship packs in the last year); write press releases about new products; deal with general PR enquiries; film and edit video footage and do voice-over recording; and organise briefing and reunion days for ‘Meet The People’ tour participants at our Gateshead offices every couple of months.
Jan 04 to Oct 04 Mortgage Customer Services Advisor with Northern Rock
Sept 00 to Dec 03 Missionary with Agapé Ministries UK
My role was to work on a team to equip and encourage students in their spiritual life and to help them be effective witnesses on campus. It involved meeting and supporting students individually and in groups; giving talks and training; foreign projects; fund-raising; handling accounts and budgets; writing resources; running discussion groups and a diverse range of administrative tasks. My work with Agapé has been a very rewarding experience and has developed my skills in a wide range of areas.
Sept 99 to Sept 00 Adecco Associate at the Automobile Association
Nov 98 to Sept 99 Voluntary Worker, Manchester City Mission
I was a member of the Servant Ministries /Mobile Evangelism Team and my role included taking part in a door-to-door video project; designing a website; organising and manning a market stall providing Christian literature; giving talks and preaching; piano performances and leading enquirers’ groups. In addition to this, we took a van into the city two nights a week to provide food and clothing for the homeless and ran drop-in centres in Salford. I found the year’s experience extremely worthwhile and I have benefited from it a great deal, especially in developing my inter-personal and organisational skills and honing my vision for reaching out with the gospel.
